Chapter 18

Clark said, “Despite my large body, as you can see, or as my friends in the sports club thought when I saw those giants, I felt like an ant. We had no chance of survival if they had left the hybrid lions and paid attention to us. It is clear that there is an old enmity between them, as they attacked.” Each of them fought against the other in a deadly battle. Every three or four lions would attack one giant, who in turn would remove the lion’s head and throw it away with all ease. Despite this, the number of lions was increasing and the number of giants was limited, and victory was certain in favor of the lions. In truth, we did not wait long, as we began to withdraw quickly, but what I noticed during my withdrawal was that the ground was opening and giant worms came out of it, eating only what fell and then returning to the ground. When we moved a little away from the laboratory, silence prevailed and stone statues spread, various life forms of hybrid animals. Everywhere, there are shapes that I could not and would not even imagine exist in the horror stories from which films are made.

The color of the place changed from bright green in the colors of nature, to the colors of stones and dry silt, until the river water became a silver color with moonlights reflected on its surface, interspersed with the ghosts of semi-human corpses floating on the surface. Everything was still. I could almost say that the sound of the air breezes mixed with the sound of beats. The hearts of both of us and this is the only sound that indicates the existence of life. I felt a tremor in Mary’s hand as she stuck to my clothes, and from the darkness, I could not make out the features of Mark and Raymond who were walking behind us.”

Going back in time to that time

I whispered to Raymond, “Come forward, Raymond, and walk beside me. Tell me in which direction we are going, for the marks you left are no longer there.”

Raymond said in a whisper after he approached Clarke, “It is in the opposite direction. The island changes the direction of its trees at night as if it were in Maria. I thought you knew where you were taking us, Clarke.”

Clark said, “I will not hold you accountable for what you say now. Raymond, you are the map, I am the muscle, and Mary is the doctor. And Mark is the thinking brain. I always remember that.”

Mary whispered, “There is no time to argue, something is watching us.”

Mark said, "But many things. Wear glasses."

The three wore glasses that they had taken from the laboratory, which have a night vision feature and show thermal objects. There were objects on the trees that resembled the bodies of bats, hanging from the tree branches, but they were stationary and did not move, and those statues of quarry foxes also showed the thermal percentage inside them, showing their location, and what made them tremble was that the ground was filled with With fixed thermal bodies, and behind the fox statues there were eyes that moved slowly near them, Clark took off the glasses and said

“I love the unknown. I don’t want to see how many hunters are waiting for me. Why did the moon become red? Even its rays reflected on the surface of the water became like blood.”

The rest looked up too, and then Raymond said, “Why do I see that it is not the moon and that it is only one eye of that snake?”

Mark said, "Has he had enough of eating ingredients and now he's thinking of eating sausages?"

Mary said as she ran and pulled Clark's clothes towards one of the marks on the trees, "I will not be a sausage today, my dear snake. I still have dreams that I want to achieve. I want to visit all parts of the world. I want to become a zoologist. No, no, I will change this." My wish is to become a lawyer and defend criminals and strive to obtain their acquittal so that they do not take revenge on people.”

Raymond said as he ran after Clark, trying to catch him as well, "I will act as a judge and will always rule for their release, even if they are guilty."

Mark said, “Stop, this is not the way you go directly to the head of the snake, which is looking with its whole face at you.”

Clark stopped and grabbed his clothes from Mary's hand, then held her hand tightly and said angrily

“Be quiet for a while or I will kill you with my own hands. Look around you. All the animals have opened their eyes and are looking at us.”

Raymond was still approaching Clark, and he would pass by him while he was running, so Clark moved his other hand, grabbed Raymond's arm, and pinned his body to the ground after he fell and whispered to him.

“If you want life, remember the route on the map now.”

Mark pushed Clark's arm and pulled him away a little, then helped Raymond get up and said

"Clark is right. They are looking directly at us, but none of them are moving, except for those eyes that have increased in number, but they are not attacking. Do you think they are waiting for something?"

Mary said, “No, I think it is preparing to attack us. Look, it has risen to the top.”

Clark put on his glasses, pointing backward with his hand, and said, “Damn it, did they recreate the dinosaur, or is that a gorilla or an orangutan? It doesn’t matter what it is. Just run away from that direction. There are two people here. I will try to distract them.”

Mark said, “What? Are you out of your mind, distracting the two of you, Clark, please don’t die tonight?”

Clark whispered, "Mark, run after the crazies before they fall prey to something else, and don't worry, I don't plan on dying."

Mark ran after Mary and Raymond, while Clark came forward from a tree and cut a branch on which a bat-like figure was standing. As soon as he felt the branch move, he flew and rose to the sky and devoured the head of the snake. While Clark cut the branch, the tree’s screams rang out, and this attracted the attention of the orangutan, who attacked the tree branches. He cut it off after those branches initially started attacking him and the dinosaur, which pushed off one of the attacking branches with its head and then started running after Clark. Clark had fled in a direction parallel to the road from which his friends fled, but far from it, until one of those creatures followed him, thus taking him away from His friends, indeed, as soon as Clark approached the beach and was above the sand, the entire body of the dinosaur appeared, which was a mixture of several different types of that extinct animal.

Clark was standing with the dinosaur behind him, and in front of him was part of the body of a gigantic snake, huge and raised upwards. He could not see the end of it because he was near it, but the rest of the snake’s body wrapped several turns in front of him on the beach, then extended lengthwise for a large distance on the beach and then into the forest, and the rest of the body disappeared. Clark stayed still for several seconds, looking once at the body of the snake and once at the body of the dinosaur. Also, from his position, he could not see the rest of the dinosaur’s body, but his horizons were spots of blood falling, followed by part of someone’s body in the form of a huge circle near him, and the sand began to move to swallow it. He sped away towards Mark, who He was called after a few moments

Clark said, "Where? Where's the rest? Where's the fire department?"

Mark said, "They're not far from that direction."

Mark and Clark continued running until they approached the beach, where Mary was standing next to Elizabeth and Alice, and Antoine was diving into the water to cut off what was wrapped around Tina's foot. After a few moments, Tina came out of the water, but Antoine did not. Clark hurried forward in the water and saw that octopus holding Antoine's arm. With another arm around his neck, Clark hit the arm of the octopus, which fled and left Antoine, so Clark pulled Antoine out of the water.

(Back in time to an earlier time)

Clark continued, "Of course, you know what happened next."

Antoine said, "I am on my way to becoming like those monsters. Clarke must kill me if Marie cannot treat me. I do not want to become a monster or part of the island here. I would rather die than that."

On the morning of the second day, Antoine was the only one awake, as he could not sleep from thinking. He kept looking at his friends and thinking, would if I became like those monsters, he would harm his friends, or could he be the only reason for their survival, Alice was also attacked by Why didn't the tree transform? Or is that tree controlling her mind, and also Clark himself? Mary put the trunk drug inside his body. They became powerful, but why didn't any of them transform? Is it possible that he too just took advantage of night vision? No, he... That octopus controlled his mind. Yes, he heard what you said and repeated it without his will. He woke up from his thoughts at Mary’s voice.

"Don't worry, Antoine. See, we all go to that laboratory today. I will search for that serum. You and I will also watch that moment again in the recordings and find out what happened to the doctor. Meanwhile, they can collect whatever tools they can until we build that wooden cave." On the beach, then we think of a way to escape the island together.”

Antoine said, "Why didn't Clark and Alice do what happened to me?"

Mark said, “Because they did not look into the eyes of the monsters that infected them, but you were looking directly into the eyes of Lady Octopus. Perhaps she put a substance inside you to transform you and not to feed on you.”

Raymond said, “Doctor Youssef said that the hybrid octopus cannot live without a companion like him.”

Raymond said sarcastically, “What? You mean that that fish loved me and chose to make me her husband, why didn’t you ask me for my opinion? Maybe I love another girl.”

Clark said, "He woke me up with his voice that sounded like a frog. What do you want, Antoine? Should I go down into the water and catch that octopus and tell her, 'I will kill you because you did not ask Antoine for his opinion?'"

Alice said, “From the female octopus’ point of view, did any of the doctors ask her for her opinion before converting her?”

Antoine looked at her, "Are you speaking like her or trying to think like her?"

"Just go along with what you're talking about," Alice said after laughing.

Mark said, “I will answer your question, Alice. Yes, Doctor Youssef said that the prisoners had agreed to be experimented on.”

Clark said, "No, he said too, or that's what they were told and they didn't care what they were told was true or false."

Elizabeth said, looking at Raymond, "It's not important now. We should all move to that laboratory and we will not leave anyone here alone. When we are together, we can protect each other."

“But,” said Raymond.

Antoine said, “There is no room for objection, Raymond.”

Clark said, "I'll be in the front, Antoine will be the last one in the back, and you'll all be in the middle."

Alice said, “Why is Antoine in the back?”

Antoine said, “Because I have become more like them. Look at my hands.”

Antoine raised his hand and something resembling skin appeared between his fingers, and on the back of his hand were tentacles like those of an octopus. He said:

“The transformation does not stop at the eyes only now.”

Mary said, "Why are we standing here? We must rush to the laboratory. Surely there is a solution."

"First, help me put all our things into the box," Clark said, "and each of you carries your empty bag."
